ABOUT US

The new way to automate

WHO WE ARE

Sydney Stone was established in 1951, and since that time, has grown to become one of the premier distributors of Print Finishing Equipment and Supplies throughout North America.

Our 12,500 square foot headquarters includes an equipment showroom with offices. The remainder of the building consists of new equipment storage, an equipment reconditioning department and an extensive parts & supplies inventory area. Our North America wide toll free telephone line allows direct access to our sales department, computerized order desk, and service department. Plus, we offer online ordering from our website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To guarantee our commitment to both our suppliers and our customers, we offer an extensive after-sales program and stock, a massive inventory of parts, supplies and equipment. We have a team of factory-trained technicians to install and repair equipment as necessary. In addition, preventive maintenance contracts are also offered on all the equipment we sell.

“ We are the people you see inspecting the menu at a restaurant or the fold of a brochure from the mail. This is not just a website. We are people that actually care that you have the tools you need to do your work efficiently and properly. Call, email or chat but please don't hesitate to contact us - we are ready and willing to discuss print finishing.”

OUR HISTORY

2016

In 2016, Sydney Stone of Mississauga, Ontario, has purchased Vertex Graphic and Business Equipment of Vancouver, BC. “Acquiring Vertex allows Sydney Stone to expand its footprint into a major market and provide Vertex customers with more choices, new programs and economies of scale that will help them to operate their businesses more efficiently,” said Michael Steele, who purchased Sydney Stone in 2008 with business partner Dylan Westgate. “ They will also continue to enjoy great service from [former Vertex owners] Brad and Anne, people they have come to trust and rely upon.” With an existing national footprint, Sydney Stone’s acquisition of Vertex provides a stronger customer base in British Columbia and Alberta. Both companies distribute and service a range of print finishing equipment.

2008

The current co-owners made expansive changes by renaming the company to simply Sydney Stone, launching a new logo, upgrading the website to support 24-hour sales, creating a new service team with technical skills and fast response time, and relocating to a larger head office.

1993

David Marsh led Sydney R. Stone into a new Era with the early adoption of a website in 1993 and by beginning to import the latest equipment designed for the new and emerging world of digital print. Importing such Major brands as EBA, Morgana, Challenge, Duplo, and MBM, Marsh was well known for his ability to see the future. He received numerous awards for securing Sydney R. Stone as one of the top dealers of print finishing in Canada.

1989

In 1989, the decision to sell was clear when David Marsh (former international marketing manager of Computerized Cutters) showed interest in purchasing Sydney R. Stone. In the same year, Sydney Stone becomes the exclusive Canadian importer for Morgana Finishing systems.

1983

Sydney Stone retired in 1980 and passed away one year later, in 1981, dedicating over 50 years of his life to the print finishing industry. After Sydney Stone's death, employees Shirley MacKay and Harry Day purchased the company from Sydney Stone' widow in 1983. In the same year, Sydney Stone becomes the exclusive Canadian importer for EBA paper cutters.

1951

Sydney R. Stone founded the company in 1951. He started his career at the age of fourteen at a Toronto Stationary printer. Sydney Stone operated one of the first Canadian Heidelberg presses which later landed him a job as a demonstrator and installer. After serving six years in the military during World War II, he moved to selling binders, cutters, and even small format presses and established what was then known as Sydney R. Stone & Co. Limited. Stone made large contributions and worked closely with Challenge Machinery, providing the original concept and construction of the well known Paddy Wagon. Sydney Stone is founded selling a Davidson Dual Duplicator for $1650.
